“ 9.4 million people in Ethiopia need urgent food assistance .”
There are an estimated 20.4 million people currently requiring immediate food support. However, tragically the water crisis is even worse. More than 62 million people are impacted by the Ethiopia water crisis. That equals to 7.5% of the global water crisis.
Since November 2020, violent clashes in the northern region have led to tens of thousands of casualties and created a humanitarian emergency for millions of vulnerable people throughout the country. There is currently no end in sight to the fighting and the hunger crisis is predicted to get worse in coming months.

According to the UN the number of people affected by hunger globally rose to as many as 828 million in 2021, an increase of about 46 million since 2020 and 150 million since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The estimated infant mortality rate per the validation study by WHO in 2016 is 21.3 per 1,000 live births and neonatal mortality is 14 per 1000 live births in with over 74% of these deaths occurring in the neonatal period.
